In the MultiFamily Mindset Podcast with Tyler Deveraux and Sawyer Hartman, Sawyer is talking about his approach to sales pitches and makes some amazing points.
Now, a little background on Sawyer - after establishing himself firmly in the Social Media realm as a content creator, Sawyer has transitioned to his current passion of "building businesses" by taking his own social media experience, combined with his marketing background, and establishing those businesses firmly in the social media realm. So far, he's helped 43 companies grow to at least 100K followers. Find out more about Sawyer at http://s3marketing.com.
Here's a couple of the points that resonated with me, and why:
These three messages are such powerful messages. Let's talk about them for a minute. The first one, which discusses establishing a goal and making a plan to reach that goal is really basic goal setting and achievement philosophy, is not new. But the statement "It will happen" is powerful. It's also not optional. Some people are great at creating goals and maybe making plans to achieve them; Amanda Dearborn has been reminding me of that a lot lately, however when you add the third step which is "focusing on the plan" or as Tyler is often saying, you transition from someone that is just sitting on the bench to someone that is making things happen. It's okay...y'all can stay on the bench but I'm going to focus on the plan and make it happen.
Confidence - there's been a lot of talk in my network of late about how to approach more experienced people in the industry. It's absolutely true that Rachel & I, and, many of our new friends and colleagues, are new to MultiFamily investment. Sawyer reflected so succinctly my position on this topic and here's the message I want to leave with you: "If you stick with me, I'll make it happen." That's not a sensationalized statement and I intentionally put a period at the end of that sentence instead of an exclamation point. Rachel & I might be new, but not only do we have the energy, gumption, and grit to make it happen, but we have a wealth of personal experienced that make us so well suited for this market. Further, where we fall down and have a lot to learn, we have a group of people surrounding us with billions of past, present, and future investments that are there to support us in making it happen.
Finally, "Leverage your moment to get to the next step" - We always need to be driving forward and know what the next step is. With everything you do, you have a moment - a moment where big things are happening, a moment where something goes viral, or maybe just a moment where you have someone's attention for 7.3* seconds and you need to help them get to the next step. What's your next step?

* 7.3 seconds is a statistic i made up with no research at all...but I think it accurately reflects the maximum amount of time someone will spend looking at your post, your website, or whatever before deciding if they want to click on something, leave, or invest more time in it. For real statics, look at Contentsquare's Digital Experience Benchmark where you will find that the average amount of time spent on a web page, across all industries, is 54 seconds. Leverage your moment.
